Guilty drivers must not go unpunished
January 14, 2015 00:00:00
A truck rammed into a bus carrying around 30 policewomen for deployment during the BNP-led blockade at Fakirapool intersection of the city. Earlier, another accident that occurred around 6.00 am at Fakirapool, left two other policewomen dead. We hardly get the news of death of women in defence. Anyway, these incidents again confirm that truck drivers have scant respect for government order and no sympathy for the common people.
Time and again several government bodies, NGO's civil society members and common people organise campaign in order to raise awareness among the drivers but nothing seems to work. We have never heard of any punishment awarded to any of the guilty drivers. Rather somehow they manage bail and escape punishment. People have become tired of these recurring incidents. The reckless drivers and the owners of those vehicles should not go unpunished. As they do not care for the common people's interest, they should not be treated leniently.
