Harassment even in Biman

Two passengers of Biman were fined for sexually harassing two female passengers in a Dhaka-bound flight from Dubai. The offenders were well-off, educated and above 40. When the flight landed, the female passengers lodged a complaint upon which a mobile court fined the culprits Taka 5, 000. I think the punishment was light and they should have been sent to jail. Their photos should have been published in the media.

Eve teasing has become an epidemic in our country. Many people here think eve teasing is normal and they downplay its bad psychological effect on the victims.

Anyway, I would like to thank the brave ladies who took the matter to the relevant authority and punished the offenders. I hope the women of our country become more outspoken against such incidents as it will scare away those offenders. It is high time we create social awareness against eve teasing and initiate a widespread campaign against it.
