Hartal: A weapon to economic destruction
September 23, 2014 00:00:00
Hartal or shutdown is back again in the country after a lull for some considerable time. But it brings no solution; rather it brings miseries to public life. All political parties must make an agreement so that no one calls hartal and disrupts our economy.
If the ruling party does not hold parley over a free fair and participatory election, more strikes and political unrest will take place. The common people do not want a chaotic situation; they want to live in peace and security. The ruling party should give adequate space to their opponents so that they can bring forward their issues.
Our economy cannot bear the brunt of any more hartal. We have had enough of it. It is a foolish act to weaken our own economy which is trying to get better with each passing day. The onus now lies on the ruling party as its attitude is important to banish hartal-like political instrument. If the ruling party does not change its attitude towards its opponents, then they can not expect the opposition to discard hartal.
Existing enmity between two main political parties should come to an end as it is medieval in nature. Our country and its economy will be greatly benefited if there is no destructive political programme like hartal. Prevalence of tranquil situation will bring more foreign and local investment in our country which I believe everyone wants to see happening.
