Healthy culture under threat

April 04, 2024 00:00:00

Healthy culture is gradually becoming obsolete in our society. The intellectual development and critical thinking abilities of young people are diminishing or deteriorating rapidly. Consequently, it is evident, upon observation, that a significant portion of the younger generation in our country has become entrenched in a detrimental culture, evident through the sharing of videos on platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, or Facebook. This phenomenon has led to the proliferation of unhealthy thoughts about culture, obscenity, discriminatory attitudes, and the encouragement of reprehensible acts like eve-teasing among students and youth, consequently stifling their creativity.

Certain influential figures have exploited this unhealthy cultural practice to serve their own interests, plunging young people into an abyss of darkness. In communities, urban centres, rural areas, and educational institutions, there is a rise in juvenile gangs, incidents of rape, discrimination against women, and drug abuse. It is crucial and imperative at this juncture to overhaul this unhealthy cultural practice and foster a culture of wellness within society. This necessitates regular dialogue and assessment between educators and students regarding the significance of promoting a healthy cultural ethos in educational institutions and society at large.

Moreover, the government and administration bear a significant responsibility in cultivating a healthy culture. This includes establishing cultural clubs within communities, fostering enthusiasm for music and sports, and emphasising the integration of cultural education as a fundamental component of the academic curriculum for the youth. A vital aspect of education is the cultivation of a healthy culture, which plays a pivotal role in nurturing moral, creative, and responsible individuals.
