Heap of garbage by the roadside
May 17, 2025 00:00:00
The Motijheel area, in the heart of the capital city, has been suffering due to the improper disposal of waste following drain-cleaning activities. Pedestrians are currently facing significant difficulty walking along the side roads, especially the footpaths. The local environment has been severely affected by this negligence.
Waste has been left along the roadside from the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) to Motijheel for over a month. Exposed to the sun, the garbage has dried and solidified, yet no steps have been taken to remove it. Moreover, the piled-up waste has taken over sidewalk space, making it difficult and uncomfortable for pedestrians. Commuters, office workers, students, and residents-all are inconvenienced daily, particularly when navigating the side roads and footpaths. During rainfall, the situation worsens as the waste spreads across the road, further polluting the environment. The air in the area has become contaminated, increasing health risks for regular passers-by. Additionally, the garbage heap has become a breeding ground for flies and mosquitoes, raising the threat of diseases such as malaria and dengue.
It is imperative that city corporation authorities act promptly to resolve this issue. Modern waste management techniques should be employed, the accumulated waste should be removed without further delay, and cleanliness in this busy area must be regularly monitored and maintained.
We request the authorities concerned to take immediate action to remove the waste heap in the Motijheel area and ensure a healthier and safer environment for city dwellers.
