Help street children this winter

November 18, 2025 00:00:00

Winter has already begun, and our country is home to over 5 million street children. During this season, their condition becomes particularly vulnerable. Being homeless, lacking warm clothes, and facing the biting cold every day makes them prone to sickness. It is common to see street children seeking warmth near roadside fires from burning rubbish. This distressing reality should prick the conscience of every citizen. Like all children, street children have the right to a safe, healthy, and dignified life.

Professionals and citizens from all walks of life should stand by these children during winter. Small actions-buying warm clothes or blankets, sharing personal winter garments, or contributing to social initiatives-can significantly reduce their suffering. Social organisations should also take active steps, implementing effective programmes to support street children throughout the cold season. Acts of help not only ease their hardships but also bring peace of mind to those who extend it.

It is our collective responsibility to alleviate the misery, suffering, and poverty of street children, enabling them to lead a better life. Let us come together to protect them from the harsh winter and uphold their basic rights.
