Helping students have part-time jobs

January 21, 2024 00:00:00

By facilitating students to work from their university, the government can address the problem of unemployment to a great extent. Students can be offered jobs on an hourly or contractual basis. To encourage public and private organisations to hire students, the government can offer a specific percentage of tax exemption for recruiting a specific percentage of student workers.

Just like the developing countries, the government will have to fix the working hours and per-hour payments for student workers. It could be like 20 hours per week and an average hourly pay of 200 to 300 taka or higher.

If we can facilitate job opportunities for students, not only will they learn to become self-dependent from an early age, but also can build good networking opportunities at workplaces, acquire good skill set and gain job experience, which will help them get a full-time job after graduation.

In Bangladesh, many companies lament that they do not find adequate number of employable youths. So, if the youths are allowed to work from their student life on part-time basis, not only the youths will become more employable, but also the nation as a whole will be benefitted.
