How to reduce children's screen addiction

September 02, 2023 00:00:00

Digital devices like mobile phones, laptops and tablets have made our life more convenient. But their excessive use can have serious consequences on people, especially children. Nowadays, most children have digital devices, which they use most of the time. This is affecting their academic performance as well as disrupting daily routines. If their use is restricted, they become aggressive, hyperactive and disobedient.

Sometimes we are surprised when we see school-going children holding phones in their hands. At such a young age, being accustomed to phones is actually affecting the life and studies of students. When children watch other people around them using their phones continuously, it automatically develops their fascination for this magical device. Excessive use of electronic devices among children can cause hyperactivity and impatience hindering brain development. Prolonged use can also lead to physical ailments such as poor posture, eyestrain, back pain, sleeplessness and mental stress, which can ultimately hurt their overall well-being.

A viable solution to reduce the usage of electronic devices is by replacing them with other activities and establishing a structured routine. Educational institutions and parents should work together for changing children's habits and activities. For instance, children should be encouraged to adopt different hobbies such as reading, participating in sports, travelling, etc.
