The world observes international human rights day on 10th December. Our country will also observe this day with due importance but how will the families whose near and dear ones fell victim to forced disappearance and extra-judicial killings, feel? How will they comfort themselves? The UN General Assembly in 1950 proclaimed 10th December as human rights day. This year's theme for the day is human right-365. Many local and international human rights groups have expressed serious concern over the deteriorating situation of human rights in our country.
We as citizens also have a role to make sure that human rights are not abused. We cannot be silent spectators of incidents of human rights abuse in our society as our collective consciousness can guard our rights. We must establish accountability in society. I hope to see an end to extra judicial killing and forced disappearance in our country so that the citizens can feel safe and secure in every sphere of life. Where fear and insecurity reign supreme, peace and prosperity cannot be established. It is as simple as that!
