This refers to the very recent public statement made by the prime minister's energy adviser about energy and power guzzlers. However, who these persons or entities are, was not mentioned. So the whole thing has become light and can be passed off as another statement that is "gone with the wind'. If some concrete examples were given, it would have made the matter more serious and could possibly lead to some good, through energy conservation by those entities.
Use of our local coal for power generation should be strongly taken up on a priority basis to conserve our limited natural gas resources and reduce the import of fuel for power generation.
We should utilise solid human waste for generating methane gas for power. This has extensively being done in almost all Thai urban areas and many villages too. We on the other hand, spend money to lay sewage pipelines in urban areas and for process it and dumping it into our rivers.
A positive way to conserve energy usage should be to provide import tax rebates for the import of energy and fuel-efficient plant, equipment and vehicles. This is the logical and proper way to go about energy conservation in Bangladesh.
