Illegal & risky structures pose danger in Dhaka

Dhaka is bustling with unauthorised structures. Recent surveys by government departments have estimated that there are over 5,000 such structures. If one visits the old town of Dhaka, they will find many buildings in rickety condition. Few years back, Rajuk had found some 321 buildings in the capital as risky.
Many buildings are in vulnerable state and can be observed by simply examining their exterior. Still authorities like Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha and Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) are not taking actions against these structures.
These structures are like ticking time bombs. Any earthquake can lead to devastation and deaths.
But the owners of these risky buildings try to prevent any and all government steps. In order to not face any monetary losses, they are eventually ignoring the safety of common people, their own families and even themselves.
A residential building should provide its residents with safety and security. But dilapidated buildings are disasters waiting to happen.
The government should go tough against such structures. They should demolish all illegal and risky structures so the safety of the public is ensured.
