Women of our country are still lagging behind their male counterparts in education and we need to give special attention to their education so that they also can move forward alongside men. Education is a prerequisite for development. If we are to empower our women, we need to impart education to them and only then can we expect the country as a whole to grow. Women account for nearly half of our population and if we neglect them we will only jeopardize the chances of our collective progress. Female education will greatly contribute to poverty alleviation and will bring a positive change in society.
Only literate mothers can ensure healthy upbringing of their children. If we want to guarantee 100 per cent literacy rate, we shall have to give due emphasis on female education. We celebrate various days to uphold women's rights, but if we fail to ensure quality education for them, all such celebrations will go in vain. Our honourable Prime Minister is a woman and so is the main opposition leader. We therefore expect to see women-oriented policies in our country which will take our women to newer heights of progress and prosperity.
