May 21, 2022 00:00:00

Do you face difficulty falling asleep at night? Do you have the tendency of waking up at night? If you have these symptoms then you might be dealing with insomnia, a sleep disorder. According to a study, as many as 45 per cent people in the world are suffering from some forms of insomnia. It can affect one's health severely, leading to a number of complexities. However, most people in Bangladesh do not care much about this. Many of us do not even know that there is a major difference between sleep and good sleep.

A good night's sleep is of paramount importance. Quality sleep not only keeps the immune system healthy, it also regulates hormones such as ghrelin and leptin that help balance appetite. Experts advise that an adult should sleep for at least 6-8 hours on an average. If someone does not get enough sleep, sleeps at an incorrect time or in breaks, s/he needs to consult a specialist to overcome sleep disorder. The body's blood pressure regulates itself through adequate sleep. It is also essential in promoting heart health, muscle repair and cognitive consolidation.

A good sleep keeps metabolic and hormonal activities in check. The peace of mind one gets after a good sleep can improve one's performance in the workplace. A sound sleep reduces the risk of various complexities including heart diseases. So, it should never be neglected. We should seek medical attention if necessary.
