Importance of social research

As social beings we have a continuous need to understand reality of our surroundings, environments and our requirements. Social research is the study of the activities of the physical and social environment. Basically, it is the study of human relations or the scientific study of human society. It deals with the humans---their relationships, behaviour, development and resources they use and many kinds of organisations they need to deal with in their daily life like the workplace, school, family, government, etc. It is important because its study helps us gain knowledge of society we live in.

Our society has a number of problems like early marriage, poverty, gender discrimination, juvenile delinquency, dowry system etc. Social research identifies and analyses these issues so that it can help us know the causes of the problem, its contexts, solution and even people's attitude towards the problem. Social research can also change our lifestyle, social norms and values. It can ensure security for our society. The scope of social research has been increasing in Bangladesh day by day. So, the role of social research in creating a clean eco-friendly society is of utmost importance.
