It was recently announced that Biman Bangladesh Airlines has added a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, an advanced passenger jet, to its fleet. Biman now has nine modern jets from Boeing.
This latest addition is hopefully going to increase demand for Biman's tickets both locally and internationally. The national flagship carrier has achieved many milestones since it initiated domestic services on February 04, 1972 and international operations from March 04 in the same year.
Biman can achieve a lot more in the years to come if its management improves some underlying issues.
Sometimes the machines, including the barcode machine and counter display, at the 'check in' counter do not function properly. These machines should be repaired and maintained to ensure satisfaction of flyers.
Biman's flights are often delayed. Even when a delay occurs, the reasons behind the delay, a probable time when the flight will occur and other details are hardly announced by Biman staff. This causes a lot of problems for flyers who are in transit.
On-board services should also be improved. The stewards and air hostesses in the different flights should have better training so that they are more polite with the flyers.
The country offices that Biman has in different international destinations can be provided with monthly targets. This can ensure a competitive edge that Biman badly needs at the moment.
I hope the management of Bangladesh Biman will recognise these and other issues plaguing the national flagship carrier at the moment. They should take immediate steps to solve these problems.
