Improving internet speed -

According to the Ookla's latest Speedtest Global Index, Bangladesh has been ranked 105th among 145 countries in November. Despite some progress in ranking, mobile internet speed remains far below our expectations. Mobile phone users in Bangladesh received an average internet speed of 20Mbps whereas users in the UAE, which has topped the index, got 324.94.04Mbps of speed. However, the cost of internet is not cheap in our country. Mobile phone operators and other internet service providers have been making huge profits with their various internet packages. There are many hidden conditions too.
Such a sorry state of internet services is disheartening at a time when we depend on the internet and when the country is supposed to be a Digital Bangladesh. The authorities concerned should, therefore, look into the issue of poor internet service and take effective actions in this context. We should not forget that high-speed internet is a basic requirement for receiving the full potential of digital technologies.
