Inadequate punishment for bank robbery
October 13, 2014 00:00:00
I was not surprised when I read that a burglar twice robbed of two different branches of the same bank. In the first case, he got only 18 months' imprisonment. The punishment is too light if we see the gravity of the crime. The criminals must get tougher punishment for robbing bank so that they do not dare commit the same crime again.
We often read banks being robbed of and such news creates negative impact in the minds of the common people about the financial institutions like bank. It also bares open the sorry state of law and order situation. The lack of security and law and order monitoring encourage criminals to break the bank vault.
The home ministry should increase monitoring in the places where the commercial banks are located. If secured places like banks are robbed, it is alarming. The common people are scared of the mugging groups when they draw large amount of money even in the capital. More alarming is that the victims fear to lodge complaint with the police as they feel it will bring no result; rather it will create more hassles for them.
