Including courses on agricultural journalism in varsities

July 15, 2021 00:00:00

Agricultural journalism is an emerging discipline. It has been growing worldwide for the past few decades. The job of an agricultural journalist is to provide news related to the agricultural land, problems and issues of the farmers of a country and modern agricultural method and techniques. Recently, this type of journalism has become popular among the youngsters. And the demand forcourses in agricultural journalism is increasing in many countries. It is a specialised discipline. And it hasthe good prospectof becoming a popular department in our agricultural university, since agriculture is a major contributor to our economy. There are many media outlets in Bangladesh, which exclusively broadcast news and features on agriculture. These programmes have encouraged many of our youths and entrepreneurs to be self-employed by setting up agricultural farms, poultry, fisheries, animal husbandry, and dairy in their areas.

Agricultural journalism can play a vital role by informing the consumers, farmers, and producers about the updates onthe activities related to agriculture: news on storage, preservation, price of products and service. We hope that all our educational institutions on agriculture will include agricultural journalism in their curricula at least as a post-graduate discipline.
