Increase in deaths from natural calamities

April 24, 2018 00:00:00

While roaming through Dhanmondi with my friend on April 22 evening, gusty winds began to blow. We took shelter along with others near a store. Soon there was rain along with wind followed by thunder and lightning. It was a scary situation as we saw a tree falling down nearby. It took nearly an hour for the storm to die down. While we were both soaked, I was still happy that I had taken shelter during the storm. Some roads were littered with signboards, glass, uprooted trees and electric poles. Later, I read the news that five people were killed by lightning in Habiganj. Given the circumstances, it is better to take shelter than move around during the storm. You never know when a lightning may strike you or something sharp or heavy may fall on you.
