Eid-ul-Fitr is only two weeks away. Already there is a shopping frenzy among the Eid shoppers of the capital city. This is likely to intensify in the coming weeks before Eid.
Because of crowds at the shopping malls, the traffic congestion usually intensifies, around this time of the year. This creates more problems for the commuters of the city.
During this time, I prefer shopping at night when the traffic is thin. Also, around the evening, the atmosphere is cool and breezy unlike temperatures during the day. But in recent times, many people are scared to go out of their houses. They feel insecure due to the increasing number of mugging and stealing incidents in the city that occur after dark.
I hope the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will beef up security measures soon so that the shoppers can shop at night and the pressure of commuters decreases during the day.
Often, we can see cars parked haphazardly on roads near shopping malls. This is a nuisance that obstructs movement of other vehicles and rickshaws. This adds to the traffic tailback in most areas. I hope the traffic authority will be more active and focus their efforts at solving such pre-Eid street conditions of the city.
