Increasing crime by foreign nationals

January 26, 2014 00:00:00

It was reported in the media that more than 100 foreigners have been arrested for their alleged involvement in illegal activities like drug-dealing, credit card scam, counterfeiting currencies and illegal VoIP trade in the last one year. It is only a tip of the iceberg and the actual scenario is more serious. International criminals have become smarter than before and our law-enforcement agencies lack proper training and equipment to fight such high-tech criminals.

The government must provide better training and equipment to our law-enforcement agencies as time has changed. Nowadays, many foreigners come to Bangladesh with tourist visa but stay here illegally when their visa expires.  Such illegal foreigners are easily traceable if a computer database is maintained for all the incoming foreign visitors. Foreign criminals find Bangladesh an easy place to operate their illegal work.

The world has become a global village and we cannot totally control the bad people entering our country. But we must seal the loopholes which lure the international criminals in our country for some easy illegal earnings. I hope the government will look into the matter and take appropriate actions so that international criminals are discouraged to commit crime here.
