The central library of Dhaka University opens at 8:00am every day. But students gather and queue up in front of the locked entrance from 7:00am to grab a seat and study inside as, on an average, it has just one seat for 24 students. Currently, the library has reportedly only 1,400 seats for around 33,000 students of the university. The number of students has been increasing over the years but the accommodation in DU's central library has not seen any expansion accordingly.
This is depriving the students of using the library's facilities. Former students of the university, who are mainly job seekers, come to the library too to prepare for various job exams, sidelining many regular students. We urge the DU authorities to look into the issue and do the needful.
