Increasing net speed

October 29, 2020 00:00:00

Today, more than ever, almost everyone is getting connected with the virtual world. And the government of Bangladesh has pledged to turn the country into a digital one. However, we are still struggling with poor internet speed, especially during the ongoing pandemic.

According to a recent report published by the world data speed monitoring platform,Ookla, Bangladesh has ranked 133rd in terms of mobile data speed and 98th in the index for fixed broadband speed in September. In both internet types, the country's numbers are unfortunately well below the global average net speed, with neighbouring India and Sri Lanka ranking higher in both mobile and fixed broadband data speed.

The number of internet users has been increasing across the country. There are many people who now depend on online freelancing jobs. As the educational institutions are now shut and online classes are being conducted almost everywhere, the students have to attend classes through online platforms like Zoom or Google Classroom. Under the circumstances, the quality of internet speed available to consumers should be consistent and fast. We hope the authorities will take effective measures so that Bangladesh can reach somewhere near the global average of net speed soon.
