Independence Day

March 26, 2022 12:00:00

Today is the 52nd Independence Day and the National Day of Bangladesh. The day is a great historic day for the people of the country. Every year, the day, March 26, brings the most tragic reminiscence of one of the history's blackest episode. On March 25, 1971, the Pakistani military junta unleashed a bloody holocaust. They mercilessly killed thousands of innocent sleeping Bangalees on that night. The nation soon launched the War of Liberation at the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the early hours of 26 March. It led to a nine-month bloody ordeal. The long-cherished independence came on December 16.

Thus the spirit of the Independence Day should be upheld by all. The day should be observed with due respect. Unfortunately, there are aberrations. Eating and dancing with Hindi music is common to them. In some cases, disrespect to the national leaders, heroes and martyrs is not uncommon. All these should be dealt with strictly.
