A hotel in India says it has made the tallest Christmas cake in the world. Raja Gopal Iyer, a director at the Uday Samudra Leisure Beach Hotel in Kerala state said the hotel's 8.8-metre-tall cake had broken the previous record of 8.4 metres held by the Mercure Hotel in Bangkok, according to internet. Iyer told the Times of India the cake would be cut into 22,000 portions.
The hotel, located in state capital Thiruvananthapuram, had claimed a place in the Guinness Book of World records, he added.
The cake, weighing 2,500kg, was cut on Christmas Day and distributed among charity homes in the city.
Ten chefs worked eight hours a day for three weeks to make the cake, Iyer said.
The ingredients included 200kg of white flour, 120kg of sugar, 69kg of mixed fruits, 1,500kg of egg-mix and 10 bottles each of rum and brandy.
A few months ago, the same hotel set out to break another world record by making the tallest sandwich.
