In India, a new government, headed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been formed following the national elections.
Earlier, survey reports forecast that BJP would emerge as the majority party but might not be able to form the government in Delhi.
It was further assumed that Congress, with the support of the regional parties, would form the government. All such speculations proved wrong. In India, the Election Commission is absolutely supreme to conduct elections.
On the question of holding free and fair election, India is a model. In our country, the independence of the Election Commission is under question.
From the experiences of the January 05 polls, some people observe that the Election Commission in our country serves the interest of the incumbent government.
Many of our foreign friends are not happy with the January 05 election. They are in favour of holding an
election with the participation of all parties.
Public opinion was not reflected
in the election held on January 05, 2014.
