Mount Merapi spewed out searing ash clouds Sunday morning, sending residents fleeing to safer grounds, Indonesian authorities said, reports CNN.
The new blast, which came after a brief lull, was one of three that day, according to the Vocanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Agency in Yogyakarta.
Residents had gone up the slopes after a relatively calm day to check on their homes and farm animals.
The mountain's recent activities are not unusual, R. Sukhyar, a geology official said on local television.
"As long as there are no people within the danger zone, there will be minimal impact," Sukhyar said. A series of natural disasters have struck Indonesia recently.
