IPL: Attractions and distractions

May 04, 2014 00:00:00

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been very successful in terms of public response. I am never tired of watching the matches on TV although the performance of my favourite team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is poor and it has lost most of the matches so far. The KKR has won two only matches out of total five and I hope it will be on right track soon. Otherwise, it will be out of the competition.

Sakib Al Hasan has so far disappointed Bangladeshi supporters as he played three matches, scored only 60 runs and took two wickets. Surely, the KKR fans expect much from this talented prodigy of cricket. In cricket matches like IPL, tournament glamour, celebrity presence and other things take the front seat and cricket becomes secondary which is really disturbing for fans like me.

Cricket has always attracted sports lovers in this subcontinent without much fuss, like dancing cheer-leaders in scanty clothes or glittering movie stars. Or may be the time has changed and orthodox supporters like me need to change.
