IPL: Glamour-wrapped entertainment

The Indian premier league (IPL) started its 8th journey and all eyes are now set on this glamorous tournament. I hardly miss my daily dose of IPL entertainment, particularly when my favorite team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) play and everything else takes a backseat. This month long extravaganza has stolen the limelight.

KKR started off well with a victory over Mumbai Indians and so far they have progressed satisfactorily by winning most of their matches. T-20 is a highly charged entertainment. Since we do not have much time and patience for quick entertainment, T-20 cricket is there to provide us the same.

IPL has become a big money spinner for film stars and business houses and its glamour has been increasing everyday. Once football was the most popular game in our country and the sports loving people used to throng the Dhaka stadium to watch first division football league matches, particularly the Abahoni-Mohammedan encounters. But now cricket has taken its place and has become the most popular game in our country. I hope the standard of cricket in our country will rise further and we shall see the likes of Shakib Al Hasan in plenty.
