Is Bangladesh ready for 5G?

April 09, 2022 00:00:00

5G is a fantastic technology if implemented properly. It is not just about speed; it can connect all the future technologies through high-speed connections with zero latency. But the implementation of this technology is not an easy job. It is built on millimetre waves, the new section of the very high-frequency spectrum. This high frequency can go upward from 20 MHz to 96 MHz. The main implication is that the higher the frequency, the lower the range. It can travel through a tiny area. 5G technology works well in between the line of sight. Even if you stand pretty close to the node, like 100 feet, and if there is a wall or tree between a node and you, it does not work correctly. Rain can also disrupt the speed.

If we implement 5G technology in Bangladesh, we have to put a node between every 100 metres. Now we do not have the infrastructure to implement 5G technology, and also, it is a very time-consuming project. Because of that for a few years more, we will not be able to take advantage of the 5G technology.
