It is only \\\'Padma Bridge\\\'

The news that the bridge on the river Padma would be named as 'Padma Bridge' comforts us. Refuting earlier suggestions, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader told a rally at Shahid Minar in the capital last Monday that the bridge to be built across the river Padma will not be named after anyone.
It was further heartening to learn that the decision the communication minister gave regarding the naming of the mega project was in fact in line with the approval of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself. This sensible decision will definitely help create a national consensus on a massive development project of the country and keep it above all controversies.
There might have been the reflection of emotion of those who proposed to name the bridge after Begum Mujib. But such emotional decision could have led to controversies and any kind of controversy could tell upon its implementation. Thanks to Sheikh Hasina that she refrained from listening to the flatterers. We have seen many examples in the past that such cronies turn turtle in the event of an adverse situation.
Padma bridge is a dream of the entire nation, particularly for the people of the southern and south-western regions of the country. It has suffered enough setbacks over its implementation. We have now reasons to hope that this time the government will make it. We further believe that the government in future will not deviate from its decision regarding the naming of the bridge.
