JAKARTA, Aug 21 (AFP): Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe departed Indonesia Tuesday after a two-day visit highlighted by the signing of a wide-ranging free trade pact between the two nations.
Abe visited the National Heroes' Cemetery to lay a wreath, a customary stop for visiting leaders, before heading to India, his second stop on a three-nation swing through Asia that will also take in Malaysia.
On Monday he and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono inked a broad economic partnership agreement that will eventually abolish tariffs on more than 90 per cent of items traded between the nations.
They also agreed to boost energy cooperation, a key issue for energy-hungry Japan.
