Jute sector of the country

February 20, 2019 00:00:00

Jute is called the golden fibre of Bangladesh. Jute goods are environment-friendly, and people are much interested in using them.

The country's jute sector has been creating employment for a large population over the years. At present, this industry is facing some serious problems such as use of traditional technology, lack of funding, low quality imported seeds, corruption etc.

Performance and efficiency of jute mills should be improved by closely monitoring them; or else employment in jute sector will vanish within a few years. We hope the government's new jute policy will focus on enhancement of the country's production capacity, diversification of products and growth of export earnings. A rational wage policy should immediately be adopted so that it increases productivity of this sector, which is now extremely low.

Both government and non-government organisations should properly utilise the opportunity so that this economically important industry gets back its form as was in previous years.
