Keeping educational institutions open

February 03, 2022 00:00:00

To control the recent surge of coronavirus, all the educational institutions in our country have been closed since January 22. However, this has not yet helped us much to break the chain of transmission. Can only school closure work when everything is open in the country?

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has repeatedly urged governments around the world to keep educational institutions open. Only a handful of countries have shut down schools. Despite the resurgence of Covid-19 infections, many countries have been continuing classes by keeping their educational institutions open, and adhering to complete hygiene regulations.

Online education is creating a divide between the haves and have-nots. Most of our people cannot avail facilities like the internet. Similarly, it is not good for the mental health of those who cannot enjoy this facility. The children need to be in the classrooms, exchange views, play and participate in other activities.
