Keeping kitchen market stable

April 19, 2021 00:00:00

It is nothing new that the prices of different kitchen items increase every year with the arrival of the month of Ramadan. But this year, the prices of daily essentials have been rising relentlessly now possibly because of the ongoing lockdown and travel restrictions. At the kitchen markets, eggplant is being sold at Tk 100 per kilogram. The price of cucumber has also risen to Tk 150 per kg. The prices of lemon and green chilli have also been hiked. The skyrocketing prices of daily essentials are making it difficult for the middle and low income people to make ends meet.

Traders are taking advantage of the lockdown to atrociously cash in on the Ramadan essentials, although many vegetables are reportedly in steady and sufficient supply. We hope the authorities will do something to keep the kitchen market stable and make life easy for the common people.
