Keeping paper affordable

November 27, 2022 00:00:00

An abnormal increase in paper prices, mostly double of what they were a year ago, is having a serious impact on publishing industry. This will take books out of the reach of the most book-lovers across the country. Many publishers have reportedly declared that they are going to reduce the number of books in comparison with what they would usually publish on the occasion of the Ekushey book fair to be held in February, 2023. Some publishers have announced that new books will be expensive and so they may be unaffordable to a lot of readers.

Books should remain a very affordable form of entertainment in comparison to other leisure time activities. As they help us create an enlightened and knowledgeable society, books should not go out of our reach. The authorities concerned should address this problem and take some effective measures so that paper stays affordable and so do the books.
