Keeping the sea clean

July 16, 2020 00:00:00

At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic around four months ago, the Cox's Bazar sea beach looked clean, thanks to the absence of tourists there. However, lately, according to reports, wastes are being littered there and dead and injured aquatic species are found on the beach. They were believed to have come from the sea waters. This is simply unacceptable. Sea waters often become risky for animals due to human acts. Some reckless persons from ships or fishing boats might have thrown polluting materials including chemical substances in the sea water.

We know, oceans and oceanic resources are the common properties of the mankind. While there should be massive awareness at the international level, each nation should also take the responsibility for protecting the environment in the sea. Bangladesh needs to protect sea beach, sea shore and also deep sea within her jurisdiction. National compliance will help leaders to push the environmental agenda globally. Even arrival of tourists in Cox's Bazar depends on keeping sea and its beach clean.
