Khalil\\\'s demise: Silent exit of a true artist

December 09, 2014 00:00:00

I was very sad to learn about the sudden death of veteran actor Khalil. I remember watching his movies in the early eighties when he mostly played negative roles. His powerful acting and screen presence really impressed me and I became his fan. He acted in numerous Bangla movies and mesmerised his audience. He was one of the finest actors we ever had in our movie industry. Kahlil's death is an irreparable loss for our film industry. We needed his guidance most when we lost him. He was equally popular in the small screen and acted in many memorable dramas like "Shangsaptak". He started his movie career with Zahir Raihan's movie "Sonar Kajal" in 1959 and since then he never looked back. He witnessed a golden period of Bangla movie. I can still remember watching his movies like "Mintu Amar naam", "Pagla Raza",  and "Agun". During the 80s, Bangla movie was the sole source of entertainment and I hardly missed any movies during that time. Still now I often watch old movies on Youtube and enjoy immensely. My heartfelt condolences to the family of Khalil on his sad demise and I hope they will overcome this shock with courage and fortitude. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
