Killing of a BUET student
October 09, 2019 00:00:00
The murder of BUET student Abrar Fahad has stunned the nation, angering millions as reflected in social media posts. A killing for dissent cannot be acceptable in an independent country and a number of leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were allegedly involved in beating Abrar to death at a dormitory on October 7. However, once the incident sparked massive protests, some BCL leaders said they would take organisational actions.
Some of them are allegedly using their political involvement as money-making business by means of extortion, tender manipulation, question paper leak, land grabbing and so on. Recently two top BCL leaders were removed from their posts for allegations of extortion. Political analysts say the current trend of student politics has lost any popular appeal today. Gone are the glorious days of student politics dedicated to fight for people's rights and democracy. Today's partisan student politics has been rather harmfu
