KATHMANDU, June 21 (PTI): In a new twist to the ongoing power struggle in Nepal, Prime Minister G.P. Koirala Saturday said he will step down as soon as a new President is elected, a day after the Maoists quit his cabinet over the delay in formation of a new government led by them.
At a meeting of the ruling multi-party alliance to break the over two-month long deadlock over government formation, Koirala said he "will resign with due process" and pressed the Maoists to take back their resignations.
"There is a technical problem, that since Koirala is both Prime Minister and head of the state, to whom should he submit his resignation," Nepali Congress general secretary Bimalendra Nidhi told P.T.I. after the five-hour meeting.
