KUMON method is suitable for Math
July 03, 2014 00:00:00
Studying individually only twenty minutes on Math each day under the KUMON method, one can advance beyond his grade level very shortly. Even a primary level student will be able to study high school and even college level Maths with love and confidence.
Around five million students are studying individually and confidently under this method in 48 countries including the USA, the UK, Singapore and Australia.
KUMON is nothing but a name of a teacher. The actual name was Toru Kumon and he was a Math teacher in a secondary school in Japan. Once, his elder son Takeshi Kumon did not get satisfactory marks in Math, when he was in grade two. His wife consulted with him and Kumon made Math worksheets for his son. He did not teach his son. Takeshi studied this worksheet only thirty minutes each day before dinner. Had he done any mistake in the worksheets, the boy corrected it by himself. In case he failed to correct, his father wrote a note over there. By this way Takeshi did calculus when he was in the beginning of grade six and at that time calculus was taught in grade 12.
The Kumon method is an individualised learning method using paper and pencil and need not computer or any technology or even a blackboard.
If we look back to the last few years, we shall find that science students have reduced dramatically in our country. It is said that Math is the mother of science. We have an acute shortage of good teachers of Math and Science in our schools, which is one of the reasons behind the fall in the number of science students at the secondary level. I would like to draw attention of our education minister and authorities concerned to it and request them to introduce the KUMON method in primary and secondary schools as it takes only twenty minutes each day to study Math.
