Let us show respect to elderly people

The other day I was returning home at Rampura from my workplace at Motijheel. I got into a bus from Kamalapur to reach Rampura. The bus was jam-packed and there was no seat available in the bus. I kept standing along with other passengers inside the bus. It was so hot and humid inside the bus that I was sweating profusely. Some aged passengers were also standing beside me. I felt pity for them as some young passengers were occupying some seats and hoped they would give their seats to the elderly people. They felt no qualms and were sitting in a carefree manner. After a while, the bus passengers in front of me left their seats and were preparing to get down, I requested an elderly gentleman, aged 60, to sit down as he was visibly tired of standing. He politely requested me to sit down. After requesting him a couple of times, he at last agreed and took the seat.

The government introduced the system of reserved seats for women, children and handicapped people which is of great help. Now the government should also introduce a system of reserved seats for the elderly people as a mark of respect and love. These elderly people are our relatives, as they are either father or grand father to one of us. We should do at least this much for them as we owe a lot to our forefathers.
