Long awaited win for the Tigers

April 19, 2015 00:00:00

The sports-loving people of our country had to wait long 16 years to see another triumph against Pakistan cricket team and it was really a very special occasion for all of us when it finally happened. Prior to the series we heard Shakib declaring the Tigers as the favourites and many, myself included, were sceptical about it. But as it turned out to be, the Tigers came on top of the Pakistanis and beat them convincingly. It became clear in the end that Shakib was not building castles in the air. He was talking realistically. Tamim and Mushfiq played two brilliant innings and took the match away from the Pakistanis. The Tigers posted their record highest total of 329 runs in One-Day Internationals and two players of the team scored centuries for the first time in a one-day match. Tamim Iqbal laid the foundation for a big total and was later joined by Mushfiq and feasted on the Pakistani attack. It was a weekly holiday and the whole Dhaka city looked deserted. When the match was in progress, everyone was glued to their TV sets. I hope, the Tigers will continue in the same vein and bring victories for us in the next games as well.
