Maintaining roads and highways for upcoming Eid

Eid ul Azha is a little more than a month away and greater number of  people are likely to go out of Dhaka to celebrate the festival with their near and near ones in their village homes. We are used to see that the roads authority are usually late to take up maintenance works of the roads during Eid festivals. Eid-ul-Azha being not far away, I hope that the authorities concerned will take necessary steps to bring the roads to order well ahead of the festival. Accidents occur due to broken roads very often. We cannot always blame the fate for such occurrences when we know that there are definite ways to improve the situation. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people leave the capital for far flung destinations and we see a mad rush. Some lose their lives on the way and we witness series of tragedies like this. Some again get so grievously injured that both the victims and their families suffer for the rest of their lives. In Dhaka city itself, many roads are in precarious condition. State of roads outside the capital can better be imagined than described. We sincerely hope, this time the authorities will take prompt action to repair the roads wherever necessary and make them safe for the homebound people during the coming Eid-ul-Azha.
