Making NICVD bathrooms usable

March 20, 2024 00:00:00

The Awami League (AL) government has commendably expanded the National Institute of Cardiovascular Disease, Hospitals (NICVD) from 400 beds to 1,200 beds, marking a significant expansion of the facility. This accomplishment deserves recognition, and we extend our gratitude to the government for its efforts.

Modern amenities such as basins, mirrors, high commodes, and low pans have been installed in the bathrooms, alongside shower facilities. However, it is regrettable to note that these modern conveniences remain largely unusable due to the unacceptable levels of dirt and neglect.

Each bathroom, equipped with 16 basins, suffers from a severe lack of functioning water taps, with only two or three taps operational. Additionally, the drainage tubes for wastewater are absent, leading to flowing of water onto the floors, creating unsanitary conditions. The high commodes and pans are similarly filthy, rendering their use challenging, if not impossible.

It appears evident that there is a lack of oversight and supervision regarding the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Therefore, I urge the concerned authorities to address this issue promptly and ensure the cleanliness and functionality of the bathrooms at NICVD, Ser-e-Banglanagar, Dhaka.
