Making public transport women-friendly

DHAKA city commuters are faced with a lot of trouble when they intend to go from one place to another in a public transport and the sufferings of women commuters in particular are higher. BRTC buses for women are grossly inadequate in number. The public buses do have some reserved seats for women passengers, but those too are often occupied by male travellers. Women commuters face regular sexual harassment in public buses, but they cannot raise their voice in protest for obvious reasons.
We have a women prime minister and speaker of our parliament and leader of the opposition are ladies. I hope they would appreciate the problems of women commuters in Dhaka and introduce more buses for women where only males accompanying women passengers would be allowed to board.
