Making society safe for women
August 01, 2017 00:00:00
WHENEVER we open newspapers we come across stories about insecurity of women in our country. Stalking and teasing of women have become commonplace and people have become used to accept these as normal incidents. But the reality is that stalking and teasing have far-reaching impacts on women's life. The mindset of the society must be changed so that women of all ages feel safe and become what they want to be in their life. A research shows that in our country 90 per cent of our women are victims of eve-teasing in some way or the other. Many women are frequently harassed at workplaces by their male bosses, supervisors or colleagues. Sometimes incidents of stalking and teasing end up in physical attacks and even deaths. It is sad that we see most of the offenders evading legal punishment by using money and social influence. A society can not and should not be allowed to go on like this. Women, who constitute half of the country's population, deserve a lot more from the society.
