Man-made hazard

A few days ago, we, the employees of Janata Bank treasury unit, went for a picnic at Padma Resort. The Dhaka-Aricha Highway is the only way to reach the site in Munshiganj.
On the way, we crossed the Buriganga-China Friendship Bridge but we were utterly dismayed seeing the dying Buriganga River. The stinky water and bad smell prohibited us to look at the river. However, our picnic bus approached. There is greenery on both the sides of Dhaka-Aricha Highway.
We were frustrated to see that there were many billboards of housing companies displayed on all over the cultivable lands. Some of the places were filled up sands dumped from adjoining rivers. The so-called housing companies are devouring cultivable land mindlessly and reducing our food production.
If this situation continues, our food security will be jeopardised. The government should take appropriate actions to save cultivable lands from the hands of land grabbers. The authorities needs to implement a land policy to save our cultivable lands.
