Massacre at dawn: sad and unacceptable
June 16, 2014 00:00:00
Citizens are shell-shocked at the unfortunate death of ten people including four women and two children in a Bihari camp at Mirpur in the city. Reports said, after Fazar prayer of the holy Shab-e-Barat night, following a clash between two groups over the explosion of fire-crackers, some miscreants attacked a house and set it on fire causing the deaths.
It is not known despite being banned by the Dhaka metropolitan police how fire crackers are sold in the market. The law enforcing agencies must know who make fire crackers and they should have taken steps to stop its production of this menace which creates nuisance and pose danger to public safety. The criminals who set fire and killed ten people must be arrested and made to face the consequences of their heinous crime. Gradually we are losing human qualities that lead to spread of crime in society. I hope the government will rehabilitate the people whose houses are damaged in the fire and compensate the families of the victims. We also demand constituting of a powerful committee for investigation into the sad incident and bringing the culprits to book.
