Meagre medical allowance

The monthly medical allowance of Tk 2,500 for pensioners above the age of 65 years is meagre if we take the cost of drugs and treatment into consideration. When one is above 60 or 65 years, one becomes susceptible to various ailments of debilitating effects, hypertension, diabetes, heart and kidney diseases, etc. Therefore, many have to depend on costly insulin and regular investigations.

Yet, thousands like me who surrendered their pensions get only Tk 2,500 per month. The finance minister should understand our plight and increase the allowance to a minimum of Tk 5,000 per month.
